LET'S TALK ABOUT
HYMENS!! (taboo, taboo...not really if you are not living in the 1500s)
So last night I was
watching an episode of Crime Patrol. In this particular episode they showed how
a seventeen-year old girl was forced into marriage falsely and then within one
month she was divorced. The reason? Her husband allegedly thought that she was
in relationship with other guys.
How did he know? He just
knew because guys have this supernatural power to tell if a girl is virgin or
not... aka via her broken hymen.
Yes, even if we are
living in the modern ages, most people, including a vast majority of girls are
still ignorant about modern medical practices. One of these controversial
topics is hymen, the thin membrane inside the vagina of a girl/woman which
supposedly is used to determine if she is a virgin or not. It is thought to
bleed when broken.
Long story short, we
girls are expected to bleed when we do that "another-taboo-secret-thingy"
with our husbands after marriage. And if we don't, then, we are the worst
things in the whole of universe. Believe me or not, this attitude is still
strongly prevalent in various parts of the world, and sad but true in majority
of Muslim communities.
Anyways, enough of my
ranting, here I present the other various reasons why a HYMEN MAY BREAK EVEN
WITHOUT INTERCOURSE.
1. Some girls are born
without a hymen;
2. The hymen may tear
naturally when a girl plays sports or engages in any physical activity;
3. The hymen is not
always smooth but tends to be perforated and that the perforations may get
bigger and cause the hymen to break once a girl menstruates;
4. The hymen can be
broken by the use of tampons;
5. The hymen may be very
small or very elastic so that no breakage occurs at all (some women even become
pregnant while their hymens are still intact);
6. A hymen may not bleed
when broken.
And if you are patient enough, kindly read the whole article here.
